Pilates Classes

Pilates — Small-group Classes In a Venue Near You

Pilates is an exercise programme format developed around 100 years ago by Joseph Pilates. Originally, he devised it to help soldiers injured during the first world war, and its use as a rehab tool has been pursued by health professionals worldwide since that time. Many of our class participants come to us by recommendation from other health professionals for just that rehab purpose. The beauty is, once they have started they feel the overall benefits, and stay with us long after the rehab reason they joined us is a dim memory. You can see Joseph teaching a class here.

After developing the format, Joseph then extended Pilates to help world-class dancers and athletes reach and maintain peak performance. Darcy Bussell swears by Pilates. Many well-known athletes — Andy Murray, Andrew (Freddy) Flintoff, David Beckham, Ryan Giggs to name a few — have improved and extended their sports careers all with the help of doing Pilates regularly.

But Pilates is not just for the super-fit, or the injured & unhealthy. It is for everyone — for me and you included. It is such a great way to stay supple, keep flexible, and keep fit. It can strengthen your body, improve your posture, ease back and join pain. It can help your golf swing, it can improve your balance, it can help guard against back pain and injuries when running, and it can even help you do ordinary jobs around the house. All because your body is better aligned, better mobilised, and better positioned — regular Pilates can do all this and more.

Current classes in Seagrave Village Hall: Tuesdays 9.15am and 10.15am. More are planned.
